Does a marquise diamond look bigger than a round?
Much bigger for the weight. A one carat marquise is about 10 by 5 mm, a one carat round about 6.5 mm across, so the marquise covers roughly 40 percent more of the finger and its length draws the eye along the hand. The trade is brilliance: a marquise returns a little less light than a round and shows a bow tie, so cut quality matters more. If size per dollar is the goal, the marquise and the pear are the two shapes to compare.
What is the ideal length to width ratio for a marquise?
1.95 to 2.15 is the classic range, twice as long as wide, and 5,809 of the natural marquise diamonds here sit in it. Between 1.75 and 1.94 the stone is slightly fuller and suits an east west setting; above 2.15 it is narrow and elegant but needs excellent symmetry to avoid a strong bow tie. There is no price premium for any range in the tables above, so decide on the setting and the look, and confirm the ratio on the product page.
Do marquise diamonds chip easily?
The two points are the most vulnerable part of any diamond shape, which is why a marquise should sit in a setting with V shaped prongs that cup each point, or a six prong or bezel design. Set that way a marquise is as durable as any other cut. Before you buy, look at both points on the 360 video and on the inclusion plot; a tiny chip or a natural at a point is the most common flaw in this shape, and our New York staff check both points under a microscope before any marquise ships.
What color and clarity should a marquise cut diamond be?
Color G or better for white metal, H for yellow gold, because the points show warmth first; in one carat natural marquise diamonds with VS2 clarity, G starts at $2,905 and H at $1,995. Clarity can be VS2 or even SI1 if the inclusion sits away from the center, where the bow tie region can exaggerate it; SI1 in G to H color starts at $1,570. For lab marquise diamonds take D to F color, which costs nothing extra, and VS1 or better clarity from $425.
Are marquise cut diamonds GIA graded?
Most natural ones here are: 30,946 of the 36,522 carry GIA reports and 5,576 carry IGI reports. Lab grown marquise diamonds are graded mostly by IGI (100,516 of 101,542), with GIA and GCAL making up the rest. GIA does not grade cut on a marquise, so symmetry and the bow tie are judged from the video and the measurements. After you order, our New York staff match the laser inscribed report number on the girdle to the report under a microscope.
Can I pay for a marquise diamond in installments?
Yes. Checkout offers Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay, PayPal Pay Later and Katapult, each with its terms shown before you commit, so a $2,746 natural one carat marquise or a $674 lab one can be spread over monthly payments. Shipping stays free and insured, returns are free for 30 days, resizing is free for the first year and the setting carries a lifetime manufacturing warranty.
